Maori Point Single Vineyard Pinot Gris Fumé 2020, Central Otago

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Central Otago & Waitaki
Review Date : 18-May-2021
Bright, pale pink with a yellow-gold core, even colour throughout. The nose is gentle and earthy, aromas of pear drop, nectarine veiled by pear skins, subtle spices and barrel flint. Medium-full bodied, dry to taste, nuances of pear, apple, underripe nectarine have a taut core, honey, pear skins melded with oak spices; savoury, nutty oak detail linger. The mouthfeel is elegantly fluid, adorned by dusty fine-textured phenolic; vibrant acidity lifted the aromatics and spices. This is a dry Pinot Gris with apple and pear flavours, barrel-fermented details contributed to savoury and toasty nuts element. A complex wine in its youth will benefit from age development. Match with white meat and grilled seafood over the next 5-7 years. Whole bunch pressed, wild yeast fermented in French oak barrels to 12.8% alc, aged for 9 months. 18.5/20 pts (93 pts) May 2021 RRP $38
