Man O’ War Waiheke Island Sauvignon Blanc 2014

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 17-Feb-2015
Bright, even, pale straw-yellow colour, lighter on rim. The nose is fresh, tightly bound and steely with cool-spectrum aromas of cut grass, nettles and green peas nuanced by subtle smoke and flinty lees elements. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the flavours of cut grass, green stonefruits and flinty minerals are sweet, lush and lively with racy acidity enhancing the mouthwatering brightness. The fruit is underlined by grainy, drying phenolic textures that grow to become a prominent on the palate. The wine has plenty of mouthfeel and presence and carries to a dry, textured finish with crisp acid and stonefruit flavours. This is a crisp, racy, grassy and green stonefruit flavoured, oaked Sauvignon Blanc with dry textures. Serve with seafood, salads and vegetables, and Mediterranean fare over the next 3 years. 90% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Semillon, all WBP, the Sauvignon Blanc fermented in tank and a cloudy portion by indigenous yeasts in barrel, the Semillon barrel-fermented, to 14.5% alc. and dryness, the wine aged 6 months on lees, 50% of the oak seasoned French, and 5% in acacia barrels. 16.5+/20 Feb 2015 RRP $22.99
