Man O’ War Waiheke Island Chardonnay 2011

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 30-Jul-2014
Hand-picked fruit from the ‘Lone Kauri’ ‘Nikau’. ‘Little Beast’ and ‘Noises’ sites, WBP and 70% tank fermented with 30% barrel-fermented in seasoned oak to 14.0% alc., the wine bottled without MLF. Full, light golden-yellow colour, lighter on rim. The bouquet is firm, deep and well-concentrated with powerful aromas of yellow-stonefruits and nutty oak in a broad amalgam that unfolds hints of smoke and toast. Full-bodied, open and up-front flavours of lush, ripe yellow stonefruits show some savoury secondary interest. The palate has roundness and breadth, quite mellow with a soft sweetness, revealing nutty and toast layers. The acidity is unobtrusive and integrated. Some alcohol heat drives the palate, which grows in phenolic texture, leading to a dry, full finish. This is a soft, full, accessible Chardonnay with some savoury secondary development. Match with roast poultry and pork over the next 3+ years. 17.5/20 Aug 2014 RRP $29.90
