Man O’ War Waiheke Island Cabernet Franc/Merlot 2011

Cabernet Franc from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 30-Jul-2014
Full, dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour with some garnet and bricking on the rim. This has a full and softly concentrated bouquet of savoury blackberries and blackcurrants entwined with dark herbs, earth, leather and tarry elements. Medium-full bodied, the palate is robust with lively and bright flavours of black and redcurrants, sweet red plums, herbs and leather. The mouthfeel is brisk and fresh with plenty of acidity and the flavours follow a firm, grainy-textured line. Some alcolohic power underlines the fruit and structure, leading to a lighter, aromatic, herb-nuanced finish. This is a lively and robust Bordeaux-blended red with savoury currant and plummy fruit. Serve with barbecued and roasted red meats, and hard cheeses over the next 5-6 years. 35.6% Cabernet Franc, 27.7% Merlot, 13.6% Malbec, 10.7% Syrah, 6.8% Petit Verdot and 5.6% Cabernet Sauvignon, hand-picked and partially indigenous yeast fermented with a portion of whole berries to 14.5% alc., the wine aged in seasoned oak. 17.5-/20 Aug 2014 RRP $28.90
