Man O’ War ‘Ironclad’ Waiheke Island Cabernet Franc/Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Cabernet Franc from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 06-Nov-2012
A blend of 39% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot and 18% Cabernet Sauvignon selected from wine from 45 different sites, indigenous yeast fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged in 25% new French oak Dark, deep, purple-hued black-red colour. Dense, complex aromas of black and redcurrants unfold layers of tobacco, earth, graphite and minerals on bouquet, very much in the fulsome Right Bank style. Full-bodied, beautifully lush, ripe, black fruits are interwoven with dark brown spices and earth, with tobacco, dried herb and liquorice that emerge in waves, filling the palate with breadth. The tannin extraction is fine-grained and builds in seriousness and firmness and along with fine acidity leads to a very long, textural finish with spicy dark plum and liquorice elements. This is a seriously structured, rich and dense Bordeaux Right Bank-styled red. A wine to cellar 12-15 years. 19.5/20 Oct 2012 RRP $45.99
