Man O’ War ‘Dreadnought’ Waiheke Island Syrah 2010

Syrah from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 06-Nov-2012
100% Syrah hand-picked, destemmed and given a cold soak, indigenous yeast fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged in 20% new puncheons and 80% old oak. Very dark, deep, purple-red colour, youthful in appearance. Rich and complex layers of black fruits, black pepper, Asian spices penetrate the bouquet with power and depth. Fullish bodied, the flavours are tightly bound and still restrained in expression, brooding, with ripe black fruits and pepper. Liquorice, earth, Oriental spices and soy sauce notes show, all underlined by very fine-grained tannins. There is a suppleness to the textures and mouthfeel which carry through to a long, refined finish. Still youthful and restrained, this ripe and black fruited Syrah will evolve over the next 7-9+ years. 18.5/20 Oct 2012 RRP $52.00
