Maison Noire Syrah 2019, Hawke’s Bay

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 17-Apr-2021
Light ruby-red with some depth and great transparency, lighter on the rim. The nose is softly full, filled the glass with nuances of young black plums, red berries melded with medicinal herbs and a light note of black pepper. Medium-light bodied, vibrant aromas of red berries, plums interweave a whiff of floral fragrance, subtle minty herbs and black pepper. The palate is light and vibrant, supported by succulent fruit and an excellent acid drive. Powdery tannin, lightly lifted herbal notes, and black pepper added interest. This is a Pinot Noir like Syrah with pretty details and flavours of plums and red berries on a supple tannin palate. Match with game and beef katsu & curry over the next 3-4 years. Handpicked, destemmed, fermented in an open-top vat to 12.12% alc, 2 weeks post-ferment maceration, then pressed and aged in 2-3-year-old barrels and a tank for 20 months, no fining. 17.5+/20 pts (89 pts) Apr 2021 RRP $25
