Maison Noire Ngatarawa Road Chardonnay 2021, Hawke’s Bay

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 19-Oct-2022
Bright, even, pale straw-yellow with some depth. The nose is softly full, aromas of almond interweave with crushed rocks, hay, underlying citrus, stonefruit and spice. Medium-bodied, aromas of grapefruit and apricot entwined with spice, hay, almond and minerals, closing on a savoury note. The mouthfeel is creamy and silky with fine-texture phenolics and stony minerality. A savoury line of acidity carries the fruit to an elegant, sustained finish. This is a savoury, textural Chardonnay with flavours of grapefruit and apricot adorned by spice and subtle nut details. Match with Vietnamese lemongrass pork chops and whole snapper with ginger & soy over the next 5 years. Fruit from Bridge Pa subregion, organically grown, handpicked, whole bunch pressed into French oak barrels with a portion of new oak, fermented to 13% alc, full MLF. 120 cases produced. 18.5-/20 pts (92 pts) Oct 2022 RRP $28
