Main Divide Waipara Valley Pinot Noir 2013

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 11-Jul-2015
Dark, deep ruby-red colour with lighter garnet hues on the rim. The bouquet is initially light and ethereal, showing gentle dark raspberry and soft red floral aromas and a tight core. With time in the glass, liquorice, dark herb, earth, balsamic and spice notes unfold, building in depth and complexity. Medium-full bodied, the palate features gently expressed juicy and sweet fruit flavours of dark raspberries, liquorice, herbs and spices. The mouthfeel is rounded and fleshy with harmoniously melded, supple and ripe tannins that provide a balanced structure and integrated texture. Soft acidity adds to the accessible nature of the wine. The flavours carry to a long, gently concentrated red fruited, spicy finish. This is a soft, supple and juicy red-fruited Pinot Noir with some liquorice and spicy herbal interest. Match with poultry and pork over the next 4-5 years. Waipara Valley fruit destemmed and indigenous yeast fermented with a proportion of whole berries to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in French oak barriques. 17.5/20 Jul 2015 RRP $24.95
