Main Divide Waipara Valley Pinot Noir 2011

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 21-Mar-2014
Moderately deep, even, dark ruby-red colour, lighter on rim. The bouquet is soft and densely packed with restrained aromas of savoury dark berry fruit and earthy plums, along with harmoniously interwoven notes of herbs, game and cedary oak. Full-bodied, well-concentrated flavours of ripe dark plums, earth, and subtle game notes are softly melded and integrated with spices, and oak cedar. This has excellent weight, mouthfeel and presence, the fruit supported by grainy tannins. The palate has background acidity and some alcohol warmth and drive that leads to a generous, spicy and lively finish. This is a fulsome generous and well-packed Pinot Noir with dark plum and earthy, spicy flavours. Serve with coq au vin and casseroles over the next 4+ years. Waipara Valley fruit indigenous yeast fermented with a portion of whole berries to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in French oak barrels. 17.5/20 Mar 2014 RRP $24.95
