Main Divide Waipara Valley Pinot Gris 2011

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 30-Mar-2012
100% Pinot Gris from the Waipara Valley with a small portion of botrytis infection, cool-fermented, a small percentage in old oak to 13.7% alc. and 18.3 g/L rs. The wine was given lees contact. Brilliant, even straw-yellow colour with a light golden hue. The bouquet is funky and complex with bold aromatics of ripe yellow stonefruits and honey interwoven with flinty reduction. Medium in sweetness, the palate is soft, full and lush, with succulent flavours of ripe stonefruits and spiced pears, interwoven with layers of flinty sulphides. This is warm and rich, the alcohol adding to the generous flavours, and low acidity enhances the breadth and accessibility. A rich, long and unctuous finish completes the wine. This is a rich and layered, funky-flavoured Pinot Gris in a modern Alsace style. Match with pate and rich Mediterranean-inspired food over the next 3-4 years. 18.5-/20 Mar 2012 RRP $19.95
