Main Divide Waipara Valley Merlot/Cabernet 2011

Merlot from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 09-Jul-2014
75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 2 years in French oak barriques. Dark, deep ruby-red colour with black hues at heart, and bricking on rim. The bouquet is soft and restrained with harmoniously integrated aromas of savoury plum fruit with hints of spices, earth and tobacco, showing secondary development. Some cedary elements emerge with aeration. Medium-full bodied, up-front lush and juicy flavours of savoury berry fruits and plums are melded with undergrowth, herbs and spices, the mouthfeel enlivened by fresh and brisk acidity that grows in presence. A light, grainy and moderately firm tannin line carries the palate to a tight, dry, sinewy finish. This is a brisk Merlot/Cabernet blend with up-front earthy, herby plum and berry flavours and a sinewy, dry mouthfeel. Serve with grilled and roasted red meat dishes over the next 4 years. 16.5+/20 Jul 2014 RRP $19.95
