Main Divide Waipara Valley Chardonnay 2011

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 25-Apr-2013
Full, bright straw-yellow colour with some golden hues, pale on rim. The nose is elegant and a little restrained with aromas of pineapple and citrus fruits melded into an amalgam with savoury nuts, cream, toast and flint. Fullish bodied, broad and open flavours of ripe citrus fruits, yellow stonefruits, spicy, nutty oak and butter form a smooth-textured, creamy palate. The barrel-ferment characters adds a degree of richness, but are well-balanced by zesty acidity. This has good underlying linearity which drives the palate to a long racy finish with citrus, spicy and flinty, minerally flavours. This is a powerful and up-front Chardonnay with creamy citrus and flinty flavours cut by crisp acidity. Serve with roast pork over the next 3-4+ years. Fully barrel fermented with indigenous yeasts to 14.0% alc., the wine undergoing MLF and aged 18 months on lees in seasoned French oak barriques. 17.5/20 Apr 2013 RRP $19.95
