Main Divide ‘Tehau Reserve’ Waipara Valley Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 09-Jul-2014
Bright, even, dark ruby-red colour with slight purple hues on rim. The nose is elegant with soft aromas of dark red cherry fruit along with subtle plum notes, complexed by earthy and spicy elements. The aromatics grow in volume, revealing layers of dried herbs and liquorice. Medium-full bodied, the palate features a concentrated core of dark cherry and plum fruit with earthy notes of dried herbs, liquorice and spices. The palate follows a firm, grainy textured line with balanced structure and acidity, the fruit becoming sweeter as the wine carries through to a mouthwatering lively and juicy finish. This is a well-concentrated and structured Pinot Noir with dark, spicy and earthy cherry flavours and good richness. Match with casseroles and slow-cooked game meat dishes over the next 5-6+ years. Waipara Valley fruit destemmed and indigenous yeast fermented with whole berries to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in French oak barriques. 17.5/20 Jul 2014 RRP $32.95
