Main Divide ‘Pokiri Reserve’ Waipara Valley Late Picked Pinot Gris 2013

Sweet Wine from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 09-Jul-2014
Late picked fruit with botrytis infection fermented in large old barrels to 14.0% alc. and 67.7 g/L RS, the wine aged on lees. Full, even, light golden-yellow colour, lighter on edge. The nose is softly concentrated with a deep and packed core of ripe yellow stonefruit and citrus fruit aromas entwined with rich marmalade, honey and musk elements. Layers of complexing detail emerge with stonefruit kernel and flinty lees adding interest. Medium-sweet to sweet in taste, the palate has good body, weight and presence, with a deep core of stonefruits and tropical fruits, marmalade and honey, infused with flinty notes. The palate has power and drive from the alcohol, and a suggestion of unctuousness, the acidity low and integrated, adding to the roundness and mellow textures. The flavours follow a dense and solid line leading to a soft, gently rich finish of honey and flinty minerals. This is a full and weighty, sweet Pinot Gris with power, richness and subtle funky, flinty notes. Serve with fruit and baked, pastry desserts over the next 4+ years. 18.0+/20 Jul 2014 RRP $24.95
