Main Divide Pinot Noir 2020, North Canterbury

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 17-Dec-2021
Deep, ruby-red, faintly lighter on the rim. The nose is gentle full, growing in presence as it aerated, rich aromas of dark herb, interweave, cherries, raspberries and plums, hibiscus and a hint of smoke and spice mix. Medium-full bodied, there is a good concentration of fruit, shows aromas of dark cherries, raspberries, plums and pantry spice; liquorice, subtle smokiness and earth lifted by bright hibiscus floral. Tightly knitted ripe tannin left a velvety mouthfeel. A balanced acid backbone supports the weight of rich fruit, harmoniously lingering to a lengthy, powerful finish. This plush Pinot Noir has great balance and backbone, showing elegance and structure. Match with lamb koftas and shredded roast duck over the next 5-8 years. Approx 40% whole bunch, cold soaked for 1 week, natural fermentation to 13.5% alc, post-ferment maceration for up to a week, aged in oak barriques for 18 months, 20% new oak. 18.5/20 pts (93 pts) Dec 2021 RRP $24.99
