Main Divide Gewurztraminer 2020, North Canterbury

Gewurztraminer from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 17-Dec-2021
Bright, even, pale yellow with some depth. The nose is softly full, with rich aromas of smoke, Turkish delight, crystallised ginger underlying tropical fruit. Medium-bodied, off-dry to taste, toffee apple, date, lychee enriched by honey, ginger, Turkish delight and smoke. The flavours are mouth-filling, caramelised fruit character and smokiness intrigue, added complexity and weight; a subtle layer of phenolic leaves an opulent mouthfeel. This is an off-dry Gewurztraminer with seriousness; it shows complex, caramelised character, spice and a plush mouthfeel. Match with spicy Asia fare over the next 3 years. Grapes were crushed, left on skins for a short time, then left to ferment naturally in old oak puncheons to 14.5% alc, 18 g/l RS, aged for 3 months approx in puncheons. 18+/20 pts (91 pts) De 2021 RRP $20.99
