Mahurangi River ‘Field of Grace’ Matakana Chardonnay 2010

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 05-Dec-2012
Brilliant, even, light golden-yellow colour with depth. The bouquet is full and intensely concentrated, packed with rich, ripe citrus fruit aromas along with a creamy barrel-ferment and MLF amalgam, and complexing reductive flinty notes. Full-bodied and powerful, rich, ripe flavours of citrus fruits form a concentrated core with real drive and line. The palate is full, soft and warm in mouthfeel, the alcohol adding noticeably to the sweetness and heartiness. Some sleek acidity carries through to provide some lift to the citrus elements as the wine flows through the palate. Lifted tropical fruits, vanilla and cream show alongside flinty complexities on the finish. This is a complex, full-bodied and rich Chardonnay with plenty of warmth and creaminess. Serve with roast pork over the next 4+ years. Estate fruit from the ‘Field of Grace block, WBP and fully barrel-fermented with indigenous yeasts to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 30% new French oak and undergoing 100% MLF. 120 cases made. 18.0-/20 Dec 2012 RRP $39.00
