Mahler-Besse ‘Reserve’ Bordeaux 2010

Merlot from France - Bordeaux
Review Date : 12-Aug-2013
Very dark, deep, black-red colour, near impenetrable with garnet on rim. The bouquet soft and up-front with rich, aromatic red berry and plum fruit with earth and tobacco notes, quite primary and classically Merlot in expression. Medium-full bodied, the fruit is light and a little shy in expression, showing moderately juicy dark plum and earthy flavours. The palate shows good weight and presence, and the flavours flow with drive, enhanced by refreshing, lacy acidity. The extraction is modest, allowing the fruit to unfold subtle herb elements and sweet curranty detail. Light, grainy textures and acidity carry the plate to a medium length finish. This is a soft, shy, plum and earth flavoured, primary fruited Merlot wine. Match with roasted red meats and flavoursome pasta dishes over the next 3+ years. Predominantly Merlot fruit, fermented to 13.5% alc. 16.5+/20 Aug 2013 RRP $27.50
