Bright, pale straw-yellow, lighter edged. The nose is elegantly full, profound aromas of white blossoms, melded with aromatic pear and quince, along with ginger and cinnamon spices. Dry to taste, medium-bodied, the palate is refined with aromas of succulent Nashi pear, grapefruit and lemon citrus, along with a white floral undertone; ginger and cinnamon emphasised on the palate as it aerated, lingers to elegant linearity. Oily, almost unctuous texture carry through the palate with bright acidity, along with spices persist to a long, lifting floral finish. This is an elegant Pinot Gris with well-proportioned flavours of fruit, floral and spices on an unctuous, oily textured palate and lengthy finish. Match with cold duck breast and five-spice pork over the next 3-4 years. Fruit from Awatere Valley, machine-picked, a portion was barrel-fermented in older French oak, the balance was cool fermented to 13.2% alc, 1 g/l RS.
