Mahi Chardonnay 2019, Marlborough

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 28-May-2021
Bright, even, medium yellow colour. The nose is softly full and welcoming, greeted with roasted almonds, buttery pastry intermix river stones, delicate spices on a citrusy, stonefruit backdrop. Medium-full bodied, rockmelon melded with citrus and stonefruit, mild barrel spices seasoned buttery pastry, and roasted almonds lend a long, elegant finish. The fruit is pure and clean, reflected by lifting dusty spices on a smooth and creamy drive. Barrel details show on the mouthfeel with fine-texture nutty phenolics. This is an elegantly fluid Chardonnay with balanced acidity and well-proportioned barrel elements. Match with roasted chicken with gravy and grilled tiger prawns over the next 5 years. Fruit was sourced from Taylor Vineyard in the Rapaura, Twin Valleys Vineyard and Mahi home block. Handpicked, whole bunch pressed, fermented with indigenous yeast in French oak barrels to 13.2% alc. Left on yeast less for 11 months. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) May 2021 RRP $29.90
