Mahi ‘Alchemy’ Marlborough Chardonnay 2012

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 02-Feb-2015
Bright, light golden-hued straw-yellow colour. The bouquet is gently full and broad, showing good presence and volume of subtly expressed aromas of ripe yellow stonefruits with hints of citrus and tropical fruits along with an array of nutty and oaky elements that unfolds in the glass. Full-bodied, the palate is solid and rounded with a mouthfilling boldness and presence. The flavours of ripe stonefruits, tropical fruits and nuts are initially restrained, but open up with breadth to show richnessand power. The wine flows smoothly with some barrel-ferment creaminess, and discreet acidity lending tension. The wine carries to a strong and positive finish with a little alcohol warmth and generosity. This is a fulsome and rounded, powerful Chardonnay with restrained stonefruit and nutty flavours. Match with pork and veal dishes over the next 4+ years. Fruit from the organic and biodynamically run ‘Taylor’ vineyard, a warm site near the Wairau River, along with a small portion from the Tobemore’ vineyard, Rapaura, WBP and indigenous yeast barrel-fermented with high solids to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 14% new French oak barriques. 18.5/20 Dec 2014 RRP $39.00
