Lowburn Ferry ‘The Ferryman’ ‘Reserve’ Central Otago Pinot Noir 2014

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 04-Oct-2015
A barrel selection wine of 6 barriques. Clones 5 and 667, hand-picked and fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 13 months in 33% new French oak barriques. Full, dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red, a little lighter on the rim, and youthful in appearance. The nose is full and well concentrated with aromas of rich and ripe black berried fruits along with subtle black plum notes, lifted by black and violet florals, unfolding complexing layers of spice, thyme herbs, earth and minerals. This has density on the bouquet and detailed aromatics. Medium-full bodied, the palate is full, rich, rounded and open with lusciously ripe fruit flavours of dark red and black berried fruits, along with spicy dark plums and waves of violet florals, liquorice, herbs and minerals. The mouthfeel is plush and near opulent, and balanced by supple, fine-grained tannins that provide positive extract, concentration and structure. Integrated acidity lends drive, and the flavours blossom as the wine flows, leading to a rich, detailed, concentrated and sustained finish with floral, earth and mineral nuances. This is a full, rich and plush, black fruited Pinot Noir with complex layers of detail, and plenty of underlying, supple structure. Match with coq au vin and slow-cooked game meat dishes over the next 6-8+ years. 19.0-/20 Oct 2015 RRP $85.00
