Lowburn Ferry Pinot Noir 2021, Central Otago

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Central Otago & Waitaki
Review Date : 17-Apr-2023
Moderately deep crimson, slightly lighter on the rim. This has a focused, elegant bouquet with penetrating aromas of plum, black cherry, savoury mushroom and sweet spice. Medium-full bodied, dark plum and black cherry aromas melded with rich herb, mushroom, vanilla and cinnamon. The fruit has a savoury toned fragrant, unveiling thyme, shiitake and spice; grounded and savoury on the palate, along with a supple, fine tannin framework. This savoury Pinot Noir shows a concentrated, harmonious palate of black fruit and spice with an enticing and broody finish. Match with tea-smoked duck and lamb rack over the next 5-7 years. Clones 114, 115, 667, 777 and Abel hand-sorted and gravity tipped into concrete and oak open-top fermenters. Uninoculated ferment with 10% whole bunch. Total time on skins of 18-22 days. Aged 12 months in barrel followed by 9 months in concrete and wooden cuvees. Unfined. 14% alc. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) Apr 2023 RRP $45
