Longbush ‘Flax Series’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2013

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 10-Mar-2015
Full, purple-hued black-red colour. The nose is elegantly concentrated with aromas of ripe dark red berry fruit with plum notes lifted by red florals and a little VA. A suggestion of game-like funkiness unfolds in the glass. Medium-bodied, plump fruit flavours of dark red berry fruits and black plums are entwined with spice and earth notes. The fruit has a subtle lift and reveals nuances of meat and game. A fine, grainy structure supports the fruit, lending dryness, but the palate is balanced by fresh acidity that carries the flavours to a sweet and savoury dry finish. This is a grainy-textured Merlot with sweet and savoury plum and berry flavours and some funky game notes. Match with pizza and barbecued fare over the next 2-3 years. Hawke’s Bay fruit fermented to 12.0% alc., 50% aged in seasoned French oak and the remainder in tank with American oak input. 15.5-/20 Mar 2015 RRP $14.99
