Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 28-Sep-2016
Even ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues, a little lighter on edge. This has a tightly bound but well-concentrated nose with intense aromas of fresh dark raspberries and black cherry fruit, along with subtle notes of thyme herbs and spices. This has excellent fruit clarity and focus to the aromatics. Medium-full bodied, the palate is finely concentrated but rich, sweet and succulently fruit with flavours of dark raspberries, black cherries and spices, along with notes of thyme herbs. The mouthfeel features fine-grained tannin structure and is balanced by lacy acidity lending energy, drive and linearity. The wine carries to an elegantly concentrated lingering finish of sweet raspberries and spicy cherries. This is a tightly concentrated, fie and firmly textured, but succulently rich Pinot Noir with flavours of dark raspberries, black cherries and subtle notes of thyme herbs. Match with lamb, beef and venison dishes over the next 5-6+ years. Clone 5, 777 and 667 fruit from 12 y.o. vines, hand-picked and destemmed, and fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 8 months in 20% new French oak barrels. 18.5/20 Sep 2016 RRP $37.95
