Linden Estate Esk Valley Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2011

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 20-Oct-2013
Full, black-hued ruby-red colour with some garnet on rim. The bouquet is softly full of savoury redcurrant and plum fruit harmoniously integrated with secondary earth, oak cedar and nuances of herbs and mint. Medium-full bodied, restrained flavours of cedary, savoury plums and redcurrants build to form a core with some sweetness. The fruit is supported by fine, grainy tannins and soft acidity. This has a fulsome, rounded mouthfeel with good presence, the flavours giving way to the structure which leads to a dry finish. This is a full, soft Merlot with good weight, some secondary, savoury development and a dry palate. Match with slow-cooked red meat dishes over the next 4-5+ years. 100% Merlot from estate vineyards at Eskdale, fermented to 13.2% alc., the wine aged in French oak barrels. 16.5+/20 Oct 2013 RRP $30.00
