Linden Estate ‘Dam Block’ Hawke’s Bay 2014

Blended Red from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 19-May-2016
Named after the dam at the base of the north-facing estate vineyards. A blend of 67% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc, from Esk Valley fruit, fermented to 13.6% alc., the wine spending 28 days on skins post ferment and aged 10 months in French oak barriques. Dark ruby-red colour with slight garnet hues on the rim, lighter edged. This has an elegantly proportioned nose with some concentration, showing aromas of dark red and blackcurranty fruit along with cooler spectrum herbal notes. The fruit has a fragrant lift and is expressed with clarity and definition. Medium-full bodied, the palate possesses sweet, lively and near-juicy flavours of blackcurrants, redcurrants, liquorice and spice that form a soft-textured, fine core and heart. The textures are smooth and the mouthfeel is enlivened by fresh acidity. As the wine flows, an array of currany and hebal flavours unfold, and lead to a lingering, slender finish of cassis. This is an elegant, fine-textured Merlot-blend with cooler-spectrum fruit flavours. Match with herb-marinated lamb and beef dishes over the next 5+ years. RRP $35.00
