Leveret Estate ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2014

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 12-Mar-2015
Fruit from the ‘Tantallon’ vineyard with approx. 5% Viognier fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 9 months in 50% 1 y.o. French oak. Full, even, very dark, deep ruby–red colour with youthful purple hues. This has a full and rich nose of black berry and black plum fruit melded with earth, spices and black pepper. Some reduction adds to the interest. Dark raspberry and floral nuances emerge with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the palate is well-proportioned with deep and concentrated flavours of ripe black berry fruit and black pepper notes. Spices, dark red florals and reduction add layers of complexing detail. The mouthfeel is fulsome and the fruit is supported by grainy tannin grip and structure, the palate enlivened and driven with balanced acidity. The wine carries to a long and sustained, bright, dry-textured finish. This is a well-structured, black-fruited Syrah with spice and minerally complexities. Serve with roasted lamb, beef, venison and game meats over the next 5-7 years. 18.0+/20 Mar 2015 RRP $29.99
