Leveret Estate ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 20-Oct-2014
95% Syrah co-fermented with 5% Viognier, the fruit from the ‘Tantallon’ vineyard, Bridge Pa, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine on skins 20 days and aged 15 months in 100% new French oak. Full, dark, deep ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues. This has an elegant and well-concentrated nose with finely expressed ripe dark red and black berry fruit aromas lifted by violet perfumes, revealing black pepper and exotic spices and an iron-like, minerally core. Medium-full bodied, soft, refined and plush fruit flavours of dark raspberries, black pepper, boysenberries and plums feature on the palate. This is rich and ripe, quite opulent and exotic with oak spices and black earth elements adding layers of interest. Fine-grained supple tannins and balanced acidity support the fruit and carry the wine seamlessly and with energy to a very long, refined and detailed finish. This is an elegantly rich, lush and exotic Syrah with a refined structure. Match with Asian and Middle astern cuisine over the next 6-7 years. 18.5/20 Oct 2014 RRP $33.95
