Leveret Estate ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet 2013

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 20-Oct-2014
Very full, near impenetrable, black-hued ruby-red colour. The nose is moderately full with sweetly ripe and aromatic, near opulent, bright red and black plum and berry fruit aromas, unfolding ripe blackcurrant notes, lifted by spicy, nutty oak. This is quite primary in expression. Medium-full bodied and tightly bound, sweet dark plum and red berry fruit flavours unfold boysenberry and blackcurrant notes. The fruit is plush and primary, the brightness enhanced by good acidity. Significant tannin extraction supports the fruit, lending a dry, fine-textured mouthfeel. The structure carries the wine to an aromatic, spicy, firm and lingering finish. This is a fine and concentrated, sweet and ripe fruited Merlot and Cabernet wine with the structure to develop over the next 7-9 years. Serve with roasted red meat dishes. 71% Merlot and 29% Cabernet Sauvignon from the ‘Tantallon’ vineyard, Bridge Pa, fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine on skins up to 30 days and aged 15 months in 95% new French oak. 18.5-/20 Oct 2014 RRP $33.95
