Leveret Estate ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet 2009

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 12-Mar-2015
Dark, deep, black-red colour with sligh garnet hues on rim. The bouquet is full and harmonious with aromas of ripe black plums, dark berries, liquorice and cedary, pencil shavings-like oak, all melded seamlessly, lifted by some volatility. Medium-full bodied, the palate is elegantly presented with intense and tightly concentrated flavours of spicy red plum and black berry fruits, and liquorice, infused with layers of cedary oak. There is some volatile lift. The mouthfeel is smooth and silky, flowing effortlessly with fine-grained tannins providing a graceful line. The dusty, cedary oak grows in prominence leading to long finish with acid brightness. This is an elegant, but intense Merlot/Cabernet blend with spicy plum, cedary oak and lifted elements, and a smooth mouthfeel, now in its secondary stage of development. Match with Middle Eastern lamb dishes over the next 5-6 years. 65% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Syrah primarily from the ‘Tantallon’ vineyard, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 60 months in oak, a small percentage new. 18.0-/20 Mar 2015 RRP $29.99
