Leveret Estate Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 05-Aug-2014
Full, dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour with purple hues. This has a soft and rounded nose of ripe black berry fruits, softly integrated with black spices and pepper, and sweet vanilla and toasty oak notes. Red floral nuances unfold in the glass. Medium-bodied, the palate is smooth and mellow with harmoniously integrated flavours of sweetly ripe black plum and berry fruits, with spice notes and liquorice. Toasty oak elements emerge and add interest. The mouthfeel is softly textured with fine-grained, supple tannins in the background, and light, lacy acidity lends freshness to the palate. The wine carries through to an elegant, balanced finish with lush, spicy fruit and fine tannin grip. This is a supple, elegant and harmonious Syrah with sweet and spicy dark fruits. Match with lamb, beef, venison and Middle Eastern fare over the next 4-5 years. Fruit from the ‘Tantallon’ vineyard in the Bridge Pa district, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 50% new French oak barriques. 17.5/20 Aug 2014 RRP $19.99
