Leveret Estate Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet 2013

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 05-Aug-2014
68% Merlot and 32% Cabernet Sauvignon from the ‘Tantallon’ vineyard in the Bridge Pa district, fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in new and seasoned French oak barriques. Full, deep, impenetrable black-red colour with purple hues. The nose is elegant and restrained with aromas of ripe black plums and dark red berry fruits, along with dark herbs and earthy notes at the core. The aromatics are lifted by subtle red florals and delicate oak spices. Medium-full bodied, the palate features elegantly presented, fresh and bright, black plum and dark red curranty fruit flavours. Fine-grained tannins support the fruit providing linearity and structure, and fresh acidity lends tension and drive. The palate flows with brightness and energy to an elegant, well-balanced finish with restrained fruit and soft textures. Match with roast lamb, beef, venison, and with hard cheeses over the next 5-6 years. 17.5/20 Aug 2014 RRP $19.99
