Mendoza clone fruit from the ‘Riverview’ and ‘Kinross’ vineyards, fully barrel-fermented by indigenous and inoculated yeasts to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in barrel, undergoing batonnage and partial MLF. Bright straw-yellow colour with light gold at the heart, lighter on rim. The nose is elegant and restrained, with tightly bound, youthful aromas of white stonefruits with ethereal and subtle nuances of creamy barrel-ferment, nutty oak and buttery, lemon-curd MLF notes. Medium bodied, the fruit is tight and shy, the mouthfeel slender in expression, showing flavours of white stonefruits, citrus fruits and nuts. The mouthfeel has a subtle creaminess to the texture, with good freshness and drive, the acid cut balancing the creamy, buttery flavours. Nutty, toasty oak elements unfold adding a layer of detail, and the wine follows a tight line, leading to a crisp, dry, moderately long finish. This is a youthfully tight Chardonnay with subtle complexing flavours. It will open up and become richer over the next 4+ years. Match with seafood and poultry. 17.5-/20 Aug 2014 RRP $19.99
