Les Courtilles Cotes du Rhone 2018, France

Blended Red from France - Rhone
Review Date : 24-Feb-2021
Deep, medium ruby-black with a garnet hue, lighter on the rim. The nose is softly full with a mineral tone, aromas of bramble, black cherries, savoury earth and sweet spice mix. Full-bodied, nuances of black cherries, bramble fruit, entwine with earthy minerals, sweet spices, unfolding Provencal herbs. The palate is robust and drying with grainy tannin along with some grip; vibrant fruit flavours and balanced acidity shine through, lengthen the palate with alcohol power and barrel spices to a sustained finish. This is a robust Cotes du Rhone with vibrant bramble fruit, barrel spices and earthy mineral, lingering dry finish. Match with roasted pork and lamb over the next 4 years. A blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Shiraz, 10% Carignan sourced from 35-year-old vines between Orange and Avignon; destemmed, long cold-soaked and fermented in small concrete vats and transferred to stainless steel tanks to finish fermentation to 14.5% alc. Blended with 20% barrel-matured Cotes du Rhone Village to build complexity. 18+/20 pts (91 pts) Feb 2021 RRP $25
