Les Courtelles Cotes du Rhone 2016

Blended Red from France - Rhone
Review Date : 17-May-2018
Dark, deep, purple-hued black-red colour with light purple hues on the rim, youthful in appearance. The nose is elegantly concentrated with aromas of savoury dark-red berry fruit and spicy plums, with notes of dark herbs and a little earth, unfolding subtle resinous and nutty oak elements. This is soft with subtle complexing detail. Medium-full bodied, the palate has elegantly rich and juicy, lively and vibrant fruit flavours of dark raspberries with subtle, savoury earthy, dried herb and nutty detail, forming a fine, rounded core. A little spice emerges, and light, lacy acidity enlivens the fruitiness. The palate is supported by light, supple tannin extraction, and the wine carries to a softly packed finish. This is an elegantly rich and juicy, up-front Cotes du Rhone with dark raspberry, savoury herb, earth and nutty detail on bright palate with soft tannins. A blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Shiraz and 10% Carignan from 35 y.o. vines between Orange and Avignon. 80% of the core wine blended with 20% barrel-aged Cotes du Rhone Villages fruit from the Plan de Dieu. 14.5% alc. Winemaker: Bernard Schurr. 17.0/20 May 2018 RRP $25.00
