Leonardo Chianti DOCG 2012

Sangiovese from Italy - Tuscany
Review Date : 18-Feb-2014
85% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot and 5% other red varieties from the communes of Vinci, Cerreto Guidi and surrounding areas, and fermented to 12.5% alc. Full, dark, deep black-red colour, near impenetrable, with slight garnet hues on rim. The nose is light and a little dumb, showing soft, savoury black cherry fruit aromas that unfold an array of earthy and herbal notes and a suggestion of funky, game-like elements. Light-medium bodied, light flavours of dark, bitter cherry fruit, earthy plums and savoury game form a soft, fleshy mouthfeel. The palate is mellow, smooth and harmonious with modest tannin extraction, the acidity a little low. The flavours pull up cleanly and dry. This is a soft, plump, straightforward Chianti with dark earthy fruits and some gamey notes. Serve with pasta and barbecued foods over the next 3 years. 16.5-/20 Feb 2014 RRP $17.99
