Leeuwin Estate ‘Prelude Vineyards’ Margaret River Chardonnay 2010

Chardonnay from Australia - Western Australia
Review Date : 04-Aug-2012
Brilliant straw-yellow colour, this has a concentrated dense and compact bouquet with a complex amalgam of mealy stonefuit, citus fruits and oak that gradually reveals detailed layers of interest. Fullish bodied, this is rich and powerfully concentrated with ripe grapefruit-like flavours complexed by spicy, nutty oak and flinty, reductive nuances. Excellent acidity lends freshness and elegance and the sweet fruit elements add a suggestion of lusciousness. This has a very refined, creamy textured line that carries through to a long and sustained finish showing fine citrus and mealy fruit and flinty notes. Beautifully fruited and elegantly rich, this has freshness of layers. Clearly modern and New World, this will keep 5-6 years. Fully barrel-fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 30% new French oak, with batonnage. 18.5/20 Jul 2012.
