Le Miccine ‘Carduus’ Rosso di Toscana IGT 2009

Merlot from Italy - Tuscany
Review Date : 23-Jul-2014
100% Merlot from Gaiole, hand-picked and fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in new French oak barriques. Very dark, deep, near impenetrable black-red colour with some garnet on edge. The nose is full and densely packed with aromas of black fruits, ink and tar, lifted with sweet oak, revealing game, currant and herbal layers with aeration. Full-bodied, the palate is openly broad and soft with deep, fulsome flavours of black plums and blackcurrants interwoven with ink and tar. The palate is underlined by fine, grainy tannins and soft, balanced acidity. The flavours recede to a light, dry finish with herb and tar notes. This is a full, upfront Tuscan Merlot with currant and inky flavours, and a light, dry finish. Match with roasted or slow-cooked game meat dishes over the next 4+ years. 250 dozen made. 17.5-/20 Jul 2014 RRP $32.50
