Le Clos du Caillou ‘Reserve’ Cotes du Rhone 2010

Grenache from France - Rhone
Review Date : 04-Apr-2013
Very full, very deep, dark ruby-red with purple hues to the colour saturated at heart. This has a very firm, penetratingly intense and tightly concentrated nose, the bouquet elegantly proportioned, showing black berry fruits with savoury dark herbs and some oak lift. Full-bodied, this has a degree of elegance along with depth and power. The fruit is still very tightly bound, showing ripe black berry fruit and mineral-infused raspberries, revealing dark red florals in the glass. The palate is firm with fine-grained tannins and balanced, discreet acidity providing excellent drive and line, which carries through to a very long, sweet fruited and perfumed finish. A beautifully proportioned, tightly bound and refined Cotes du Rhone that will develop with class over the next 8-10+ years. Match with fine braised red meat dishes. 75% Grenache and 25% Mouvedre from old vines from the ‘Les Bedines' and ‘Guigasse' sites in the Clos du Caillou estate of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, fermented to 15.0% alc., the wine spending 30 days on skins and 17 months in oak. Certified AB organic. 550 dozen made. 18.5+/20 Sep 2012 RRP $79.99
