Made only in the best vintages. 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvedre from vines >50 y.o. from ‘La Guigasse', fermented to 15.0% alc., the wine spending 39 days on skins, and aged 18 months in 600 L demi-muids. Certified AB organic. Full, deep, dark ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues. The nose is very tight, with a penetrating bouquet of very ripe black berried fruits, dark raspberries, earth and exotic oak spices, the aromas very concentrated, with detailed nuances and great clarity. Full-bodied, the tightly bound flavours and very fine tannins contribute to a very concentrated, elegantly proportioned palate. Packed flavours of succulent black berried fruits and ripe raspberries are intermixed with oak spices. The mouthfeel and textures very refined, though the extraction is serious, and the wine exudes a tension and energy from good acid balance. This has great drive and line, and the finish is very long and sustained, with a dark fruit and oak amalgam. This is an elegant, but powerfully concentrated Chateauneuf-du-Pape that will integrate and develop complex detail over the next 10-15 years. 600 dozen made. 19.0+/20 Sep 2012 RRP $237.99
