Le Clos du Caillou Cotes du Rhone 2011

Grenache from France - Rhone
Review Date : 04-Apr-2013
Dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, youthful in appearance. The nose is fresh and full, openly accessible with aromas of savoury dark berry fruits along with hints of game, herbs and fragrant violetty florals. Medium-bodied, lush dark red berry fruit and plum flavours form a good core with elegant proportion. Fine, supple tannins underline the fruit and the acidity is discreet. The fruit is up-front and uncomplicated, immediately appealing, becoming lighter on finish. This is an accessible and up-front, fruity Cotes du Rhone. Serve with pasta and barbecued food over the next 4+ years. 90% Grenache, 5% Syrah, 3% Mourvedre and 2% Counoise from vines 50-51 y.o., fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine spending 24-30 days on skins. Certified AB organic. 4,000 dozen made. 17.0+/20 Sep 2012 RRP $39.99
