Laurent-Perrier ‘Ultra Brut’ Champagne NV

Sparkling Wine from France - Champagne
Review Date : 13-Nov-2012
55% Chardonnay and 45% Pinot Noir from 15 cru averaging 97%, the wine on lees at least 4 years with no dosage. Light straw-yellow colour with glints of gold, a fine, moderately persistent bead. Intense and elegant on bouquet, with good depth and core, lovely white florals and steel initially showing, but Pinot Noir at the heart with integrated autolysis. Very dry, crisp and racy with acidity, and a line of steel and minerals through the palate, this has an underlying weight and presence from fruit depth, time on lees and bottle-age developing. This has lovely cut to the subtly substantial palate, and very fine textures run to a very long, mouth-watering finish. This has the appearance of lip-smacking and searing acidity and dryness, but there is weight, and softness to the textures that provide this with real strength. Delicious poise and no austerity. 18.5/20 Nov 2012 RRP $160.00
