Clones 667, 777, 115 and Abel, fully destemmed, the fermentation initiated by indigenous yeasts and taken to 13.5% alc., the wine spending 21 days on skins and aged 11 months in 20% new French oak barriques. Dark, deep ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues, lighter on edge. The bouquet is fresh and fragrant with aromas of dark berries and cherry fruit, still tightly bound and with excellent depth and purity of expression. Nuances of dark herbs, fennel and liquorice unfold, adding to the interest. Medium-full bodied, the palate is finely proportioned with vivid, pure black cherry and berry fruits, showing excellent varietal clarity. The palate has a tightly concentrated core, supported by bright, fresh acidity and fine-grained, supple tannins. The flavours follow a positive line that leads to a very long finish with black fruit and liquorice flavours. This is a fresh and vibrant, pure, black-fruited Pinot Noir classically expressive of Central Otago. Match with roasted duck and pork, and with semi-hard cheeses over the next 5-7 years. 250 cases made 18.0+/20. Jun 2013 RRP $44.99
