Lake Road Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2014

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 30-Apr-2015
Very dark, deep, blck-hued purple-red colour, very youthful in appearance. This has a fresh, ripe nose of dark red plum and dark raspberry fruit aromas along with hints of curranty fruit and aromatic leafiness. This is bright and primary in expression with good depth and concentration. Medium-full bodied, up-front juicy dark red plum and bright, near jammy black and blue plum flavours feature on the palate. Some currant, leaf and spicy oak elements add detail. The fruit is supported by mouthfilling, powdery tannin extraction and soft acidity allowing the primary lift and sweetness to show. The tannins build and the soft, dry textures carry to a fulsome finish. This is a fulsome, juicy fruited Merlot with up-front dark plum flavours and a soft mouthfilling structure. Match with barbecued and roasted red meats, and Mediterranean fare over the next 4 years. Hawke’s Bay fruit fermented to 14.4% alc., the wine given limited oak contact. 17.0/20 May 2015 RRP $16.00
