Lake Road Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2013

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 18-Oct-2013
Very dark, deep, near impenetrable black-hued ruby-red, very youthful appearance. The nose is elegantly proportioned and tightly bound with ripe, primary aromatic black plum and black berry fruits and some earthy, mineral elements, all harmoniously integrated. Medium-full bodied, the fruit expression is tightly restrained, the black berry and plummy fruits with moderate depth. The mouthfeel features fine-grained, powdery tannins and ripe, soft acidity. The textures carry the wine to a dry, grainy finish with lingering, lifted fruit notes. This is an elegant, tightly bound, primary Merlot with light fruit and fine, dry extract. Match with roasted red meats and hard cheeses over the next 4-5+ years. Fruit from Ngatarawa Road, fermented to 13.6% alc., the wine given limited oak contact. 16.5/20 Oct 2013 RRP $17.99
