Bright, even, pale yellow with depth and a hint of green. The nose is gently full, with aromas of lemon, pear and melon interweaving a subtle portion of flint, struck match and spice. Medium-full bodied, bright with fruit on the entry, pear, lemon followed by melon, spice, flint and buttercream. The wine is clean and fruit-forward at the entrance, then richness and spice grew in the closing. Creamy and fine-textured phenolics broaden the mouthfeel. This is an approachable Chardonnay with succulent fruit and a weighty, creamy, textural palate. Match with chicken and grouper over the next 3-4 years. Fruit from Wairau Valley, fermented in tank and seasoned oak barrels to 13% alc, aged 7 months on lees, partial MLF. 18+/20 pts (91 pts) June 2022 RRP $18.99
