La Tour Charlemagne Medoc Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Cabernet Sauvignon from France - Bordeaux
Review Date : 25-Sep-2014
85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot from a single vineyard in the Medoc, from 30 y.o. vines, fermented to 13.5% alc, the wine partially matured in seasoned French oak barriques. Dark, deep ruby-red colour with a touch of bricking on the rim. This is finely concentrated with a harmoniously packed nose of ripe, savoury blackcurrant fruit intermixed with olives and herbal notes. Some funky, game-like meatiness adds a complexing layer to the bouquet. Medium-bodied, the palate is firmly packed with plush and sweet blackcurrant fruit flavours infused with game, earth and meat. The tannin extraction is supple and the mouthfeel has roundness and carries integrated acidity in the background. As the wine flows, a fine-grained, drying firmness becomes prevalent, leading to a long, blackcurranty finish. This is a savoury, game-nuanced, blackcurranty Medoc wine with fine, dry tannins. Serve with roasted red meats and hard cheeses over the next 4+ years. 16.5/20 Sep 2014 RRP $29.99
