La Celia ‘Pioneer’ ‘Reserva’ Uco Valley Malbec 2012

Malbec from Argentina
Review Date : 31-Oct-2014
Very dark, black-hued ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues. The nose is gently full with deep and ripe fruit aromas of blackberries and boysenberries melded with raspberry jam notes. Layers of black earth and spicy herbs add interest to the fruit. Medium-full bodied, the fruit is sweetly ripe and lush, somewhat restrained in exuberance, showing flavours of blackberries, raspberries and plum jam. The wine is smooth-flowing, with supple tannin extraction and integrated acidity in support, lending a sweet and fleshy mouthfeel. The structure grows and carries the wine to a balanced, dry finish with attractively sweet plum and raspberry elements. This is a softly rich and lush, ripe Malbec with supple tannins. Match with roasted red meat dishes over the next 4-5 years. Fruit from ‘La Consulta’ at 1050 m.a.s.l., fermented to 14.2% alc., the wine spending 24 days on skins, with 80% of the wine aged 9 months in seasoned French and American oak barrels. 17.5-/20 Oct 2014 RRP $25.00
